Now Playing: Slow Education
Hello there, I (Lukas Glickman) am starting a new section called "The Eclectic Bialik Music Stop"
Here are the facts Jack
- Each issue two ew songs will be listed and will be available at this site
- I will be providing background about the songs and why I chose them.
Please keep in mind that I am choosing songs which I enjoy - you will not find anything from the daily MTV rotation in this section. Prepare to listen to music that isn't created for the sole reason of making money.
This Week’s first song is “Slow Education” By the Silver Jews
The Silver Jews are not a Hasidic group; they aren’t even that religiously inspired. They originally started as a side project to the band Pavement. Their first release was recorded on people’s answering machines, and this lo-fi approach still carries on into their music today.
Slow Education, like all Silver Jews songs, is written by D.C Berman, who besides Leonard Cohen is the only person on earth to be as a profound a poet as musician.
This song is especially haunting, because it signals his views on death. The album, which this track was on, was recorded before his attempted suicide. Since then, he has gone through rehab and released the brilliant “Tanglewood Numbers”, which is clearly more upbeat and portrays his now brighter outlook on life. Enjoy.

The file will be avalible for 7 days.
The second song of the issue is "Say Something New" By The Concretes.
You might know this song from the Target commercials that aired a few months ago. This song is from The Concretes first album, which is also their strongest. It seems that every song that comes out of this incredible Swedish band is pure pop bliss. Enjoy.
